National Fishing Week
A series of fishing events are being run by the Angling Trust in support of National Fishing Week, aimed to attract new people to the sport and raise the profile of angling in the North East.
National Fishing Week runs from 24th July – 2nd August and the North East are holding four regional events over the week, each sponsored by Hardy & Greys Ltd.
The first event will be held on 28th July at Duridge Bay Country Park from 10am – 4.30pm and Amble Harbour from 4.30pm – 7.30pm.
12 youngsters from the Amble area will have a dry land coaching session before fishing from the beach, then heading to Amble harbour to fish from a local charter boat.
The second event will be held at South Linden Fishery on 29th July from 10am – 5pm.
During this event 12 youngsters from Positive Futures social inclusion programme will undertake coaching sessions then take part in a fishing competition.
On 30th July the flagship event of the week will be held at High Lakes, Ponteland. This event is a disability parent and children event and will run from 10am – 3.30pm.
20 disabled young people & 20 parents from Northumberland will participate in coaching session then fish in a competition.
The final event is being held at High Lakes on 30th July from 10am – 3.30pm.
12 places are available to the public for a beginner’s introduction to fly fishing. Coaching sessions & the opportunity to fish for specimen Trout to 25lb are also available.
