Wales Carp Masters Championship 10th June 2007
Llyn-Y-Gors gets off the mark.
Despite extremely hot and sunny conditions combined with heavy spawning activity, the Wales Carp Masters qualifier was to be stiffly contested. Sky Sports filmed the event held on The Karpium throughout Saturday for the program to will be screened in October this year. Father and son Darren & Ben Williams from Rhyl had led the competition from the start but fell just short with 5 fish for 61lb 8oz ending as runners-up.
Event winners Carl Welsbury & Stephen Black from Ellesmere Port, sponsored by Bargain Booze, landed 6 fish for a total weight of 72lb 1oz, with third place shared by juniors Daniel Hood & Jono Highfield from Stoke-on-Trent.
Carl & Stephen go forward to the final on 28th-30th September at Celtic Lakes near Lampeter which has a first prize of £10,001 plus free entry to the World carp Classic. Four further qualifiers will be held at Llyn Y Gors over the coming months.
