Top Carp Catches - week ending 16th March 2007
Steve Butler of Wellingborough has broken the Wellingborough Lakes record with a 40lb 1oz common. Steve used a size 8 Mugga Hook baited with a Bang On Baits 18mm DSN boilie and tied to 15lb Cortex hooklink
Myles Gascoyne, a Carp-Talk columnist top an impressive brace of mirrors on a stint at Wellington Country Park Lake. The mirrors weighed in at 40lb 14oz and 43lb 12oz. Myles used a size 10 Korda Wide Gape hook tied to 10lb Catana hooklink.
“Big-Bad-Ash” of Byfleet in Surrey took a personal best, and lake record, mirror of 45lb 3oz from a Southern Syndicate Water. Ash fished maize over a small offering of Carp Company Icelandic Red Caviar and Cranberry freebies. The bait was presented on a Size 8 Nailer hook on a 3 inch 15lb amnesia hooklink. The big mirror was the first fish for Ash after 28 blanks!
Kieran Jones fished 5 nights at Tails Up Kingsmead and took 2 twenties and a 44lb 10oz mirror. The biggie fell to NAshbaits frozen Scopex Squid boilies on a Super Specialist hook, tied to Black Silt hooklink, fished over 10kg of chopped freebies. A nice reward for a 400 mile round trip!
A 24 hour session on a southern synicate water produced 4 thirties and a 42lb 7oz common for Craig Stones from Canvey Island. Nashbaits Scopex Squid boilies and 10mm Tutti Frutti Flouro popups on a size 6 G Point hook tied to 25lb Sheath Skin did the trick.
Kirk Finch of Croydon broke the Plantation Lake record at Furnace Lakes with a 46lb 8oz common. Kirk fished Mainline Activ 8 popups presented on a size 6 Wide Gape hook tied to an amnesia stiff link.
Mark Hogg had a hectic five minutes at Bluebell’s Kingfisher Lake with a 42lb 8oz common carp following a beautiful 37lb fully scaled mirror. Mark fished Eric’s Angling Centre 16mm GLM Froze boilies over 2kg of freebies. Snowman hookbaits with half a pineapple popup tied to size 7 ling shank hook on 25lb Heavy Skin hooklinks proved a winning combination.
Mark Sissons from Hordean topped a day at a local club water with a 39lb 9oz mirror. Mark also took 3 twenties and 3 other thirties during the 24 hour stint.
